(July 11, 2021) Novak Djokovic joined the 20-20-20 club with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal when he beat No. 7 seed Matteo Berrettini 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 to win his sixth Wimbledon title for this 20th major titles on Sunday. The 34-year-old from Serbia so sits atop the all-time major men’s singles list with Nadal and Federer. He’s now won the first three legs of the Grand Slam. He is just a US Open title away from claiming the calendar Grand Slam last achieved by Rod Laver in 1969.
“I have to pay a great tribute to Rafa and Roger. They are legends. Legends of our sport. They are the two most important players that I ever faced in my career,” said Djokovic during the trophy presentation. “They are, I think, the reason that I am where I am today. They’ve helped me realize what I need to do in order to improve, to get stronger mentally, physically, tactically.”
Asked about the quest for the Grand Slam, the world No. 1 said: “I’m hoping. I’m going to definitely give it a shot.”
“I’m in a great form and obviously playing well and playing my best tennis at Grand Slams is the highest priority that I have right now at this stage of my career. So let’s keep it going.”
