
SAN DIEGO – (August 5, 2021) – Tournament officials have named Robin Montgomery of Washington, D.C., as the top seed of the United States Tennis Association Billie Jean King Girls’ 18s National Championships, which get underway with first-round matches at 8 a.m. (PDT) on Sunday, August 8 at Barnes Tennis Center, 4490 W. Point Loma Blvd., San Diego, CA, 92107.
The 16-year-old Montgomery is ranked No. 364 in the Women’s Tennis Association singles rankings. She captured her first professional singles title last year when she won a $25,000 International Tennis Federation / USTA tournament in Las Vegas.
Montgomery made her Grand Slam debut at the 2020 US Open, where she fell 6-1, 6-3 in the first round to Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan, who is currently ranked No. 35 in the world.
Katrina Scott of Woodland Hills, Calif., is the Girls’ 18s second seed. The 17-year-old Scott is currently ranked a career-high No. 372 in the WTA singles rankings. She has competed most of the year on the ITF World Tennis Tour and USTA Pro Circuit, but has also played several WTA events.

Over 400 of the top junior tennis players in the country, aged 16 and 18 and under, are competing for the title of National Champion, as well as a wild card entry into the Women’s Singles main draw of the 2021 US Open (for the 18s Champion) and a wild card into the 2021 US Open Junior Championships (for the 16s Champion). The 18s Doubles Champions will also receive a wild card into the US Open Women’s Doubles main draw.
Early-round tournament matches will also be played at the Balboa Tennis Club, 2221 Morley Field Drive, San Diego, CA 92104 from Wednesday, August 4 through Tuesday, August 10.
