
(August 25, 2021) Serena Williams announced on her Instagram account that she will not be playing the 2021 US Open due to a right leg hamstring injury.
Williams, a six-time US Open champion, last competed in the first-round of Wimbledon where she retired from the match with an injury to her right leg.
Williams, who turns 40 next month joins major winners on the sidelines, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem, defending champion.
