HENDERSON, Nev. (October 8, 2021) – American’s Hanna Chang and Chanelle Van Nguyen and Japan’s Yuiko Lily Miyazaki each came back after dropping the first set by the same 6-2 score to come back and win third-set quarterfinal matches on a rain-delayed Friday at the USTA Pro Circuit Women’s $60,000 event taking place at the Whitney Mesa Tennis Complex.
The No. 4-seeded Chang downed Great Britain’s Tara Moore, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, and the unseeded Van Nguyen, the former UCLA star, upset fellow American and No. 2-seeded Allie Kiick, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Miyazaki also dropped her first set to American Dalayna Hewitt, 2-6, before registering a 6-3, 6-4 win over her fellow unseeded Hewitt to advance to Saturday’s semifinals.
Starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, the former University of Michigan star Bektas will face Chang, followed by the other semifinal pitting Miyazaki against Van Nguyen.
Quinn Gleason and Slovakian partner Tereza Mihalikova – the tournament’s No. 2-seeded team – advanced to Saturday’s doubles final with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Hewitt and Van Nguyen. The pairing will face the winner of Saturday’s doubles semifinalists Bektas and Moore up against the team of Haley Giavara and Lulu Sun.
Admission to the tournament is free and all fans are encouraged to wear masks and follow standard health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
