TEOTIHUACÁN GROUP

[8] Anett Kontaveit (EST) d. [2] Barbora Krejcikova (CZE) 6-3 6-4

[3] Karolina Pliskova (CZE) d. [6] Garbiñe Muguruza (ESP) 4-6 6-2 7-6(6)

TENOCHTITLÁN GROUP

[2] Shuko Aoyama (JPN) / Ena Shibahara (JPN) d. [7] Darija Jurak (CRO) / Andreja Klepac (SLO) 6-0 6-4

[4] Nicole Melichar-Martinez (USA) / Demi Schuurs (NED) d. [5] Samantha Stosur (AUS) / Zhang Shuai (CHN) 6-2 6-2

ADVANCEMENT SCENARIOS – FRIDAY – TEOTIHUACÁN GROUP
·         Kontaveit advances to the semifinals if she wins in straight sets (position in group tbd)
·         If Kontaveit and Krejcikova win, Kontaveit advances to the semifinals as group winner and Muguruza is eliminated (Krejcikova and Pliskova would play for second spot on Sunday)
·         If Pliskova and Muguruza win, Pliskova advances to semifinals as group winner and Krejcikova is eliminated (Kontaveit and Muguruza would play for second spot Thursday)
·         Krejcikova is eliminated if she loses in straight sets
·         Any other combination of results will mean qualification comes down to the final matches on Sunday

ADVANCEMENT SCENARIOS – FRIDAY – TENOCHTITLÁN GROUP


·         If Aoyama & Shibahara and Jurak & Klepac win, Aoyama & Shibahara advance to semifinals as group winner, and Stosur & Zhang are eliminated (Jurak & Klepac and Melichar-Martinez & Schuurs would play for the No.2 spot on Sunday)
·         If Aoyama & Shibahara win in straight sets and Stosur & Zhang win in three sets, Aoyama & Shibahara advance to the semifinals (position tbd)
·         If Melichar-Martinez & Schuurs and Stosur & Zhang both win, Melichar-Martinez & Schuurs advance to the semifinals as group winner, and Jurak & Klepac are eliminated (Stosur & Zhang and Aoyama & Shibahara would play for the No.2 spot on Sunday)
·         If Melichar-Martinez & Schuurs win in straight sets and Jurak & Klepac win in three sets, Melichar-Martinez & Schuurs advance to the semifinals (position tbd)
Any other combination of results will mean semifinal advancement comes down to final matches on Sunday
QUOTE OF THE DAY: Karolina Pliskova on her opening match win: “If I just lose this match tonight, I think I’m gone because it was big, like having couple match points, breakpoints there, I was so close to making it even before the tiebreak. Then, of course, I was quite close to also losing it. This match, for me, I mean, even if you lose, what else can you do? You still have to come the next day and play again.”
