Novak Djokovic is Out of both Indian Wells and Miami Tournaments

March 9, 2022 by Tennis Panorama News

Novak Djokovic

(March 9, 2022) World No. 2 Novak Djokovic announced on his Twitter page that he would not be able to participate at both the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells of the Miami Open.

While I was automatically listed in the @BNPPARIBASOPEN and @MiamiOpen draw I knew it would be unlikely I’d be able to travel. The CDC has confirmed that regulations won’t be changing so I won't be able to play in the US. Good luck to those playing in these great tournaments 👊

— Novak Djokovic (@DjokerNole) March 9, 2022

The BNP Paribas Open put out the following statement:

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the BNP Paribas Open. As the next player in line to be seeded, Grigor Dimitrov will move into Djokovic’s space in the draw, and a Lucky Loser from qualifying will move into Dimitrov’s space in the draw once qualifying is complete.

Djokovic’s name had already been placed in the draw.

Djokovic who was the defending Australian Open champion, not vaccinated for Covid-19, was deported from Australia before the the Australian Open began part an 11-day ordeal in which part of it he was in a immigration detention center. Djokovic has only played one event in 2022.

Djokovic noted in February that he had no plans to get vaccinated for Covid.
