Injured Nadal Rallies Past Fritz, Will Face Kyrgios in Wimbledon Semis as 2019 Champ Halep and Rybakina Advance to Final Four

(July 6, 2022) An injured Rafael Nadal rallied past No. 11 seed Taylor Fritz of the U.S., 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (10-4) to advance to the semifinals of Wimbledon. It’s his 38th major tournament semifinal. The second seed from Spain was hampered by an abdominal injury and needed two different medical time outs during the over four hour match.

Nadal will face unseeded Nick Kyrgios for a place in the final. The Aussie knocked out Chilean Cristian Garin in straight sets.

In women’s action, 2019 champion Simona Halep stopped Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 6-4. The Romanian will try to get to the final again when she faces off against Elena Rybakina who defeated Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
