
August 14, 2022 – Top American junior Eleana Yu (17; Mason, Ohio) won the singles title at the USTA Billie Jean King Girls’ 18s National Championships today in San Diego, earning a wild card into the main draw of the US Open.
Yu, the tournament’s No. 4 seed, defeated 15-year-old Valerie Glozman (Bellevue, Wash.) in the final, 6-3, 7-5.
The singles final of the USTA Boys’ 18s National Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich., will be held tomorrow after the semifinals were postponed until today due to weather. No. 2 seed Ethan Quinn (18; Fresno, Calif.) and No. 8 seed Learner Tien (16; Irvine, Calif.) advanced to tomorrow’s final, when another US Open wild card will be on the line.
Quinn has already secured his spot in New York later this month as he and partner Nicholas Godsick (17; Chagrin Falls, Ohio) won the boys’ 18s doubles title on Saturday, earning the pair a US Open doubles wild card. Godsick is the son of American tennis legend Mary Joe Fernandez and prominent tennis agent Tony Godsick.
