(August 26, 2026) FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY – Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik met Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli in the US Open mixed doubles final on Wednesday night. The Czech team of Muchova and Mensik won 6-3, 1-6,10-6 to capture the title; for each of them, it was their first major title.
Aside from when he was a child, Tuesday marked the first time Mensik played mixed doubles.
“It sounds crazy, huh?,” said Mensik to media. “Like you said, my first mixed doubles, 100% win rate, so… I will finish my career, I guess (smiling). It’s making fun.
“No, of course, it was fun event. Of course, I think we just went there out to have some fun, just to get couple of matches before the main draw. We actually played pretty well. It’s starting to get like a real deal.
“So yeah, obviously when we went this far, not just me, but both of us, we are very happy that we could lift the trophy.”
Muchova made a point of coordinating their matching maroon and pink outfits from Adidas.
“My favorite color right now is pink and maroon, that’s for sure,” Mensik said.
“I think I as well have to say that my favorite is maroon,” Muchova added. “Now that Jakub know what it means, it’s favorite colors of both of us.”
Both are still in disbelief that they are now major winners.
“I think I’m not even realizing it yet,” Muchova said. “Obviously we are both singles players, so that’s always in my head.
“But yeah, I feel we are both kind of chilled that we, like, celebrated. But it goes so fast. This format of a tournament, it went really quickly.
“I’m obviously super happy that we managed to win. It was not my expectation. I think we’ll celebrate a little bit and have some days off. I’m glad we made this together with Jakub.”
Mensik: “Obviously it’s not probably the main fact that we won the title, but actually that we really had like really great matches to play. If it was mixed doubles, it’s actually pretty different discipline.
“Of course, at the same time it’s good that we tried a lot of things on the court. So of course it gives you a little bit of boost of confidence, that’s for sure.
“Yeah, I mean, the key part of that, of course, it’s like Karolina said, it’s good to have these little day off, still a little bit of time till the main draw of singles starts. Of course, that’s the main event, why we are here.
“Yeah, it’s good to have.”
In the first semifinal, the fourth-seeded team of Belinda Bencic of Switzerland and Flavio Cobolli of Italy won 20 out of the last 26 points to rally past married couple France’s Gael Monfils and Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina 4-5 (7-9), 4-1, 10-5.
“I think we just tried to play more brave maybe,” Bencic said on court.
Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik advanced the final winning the second semi edging Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev on Wednesday night, saving a pair of match points 5-4 (6), 3-5 (11-9). The Czechs rallied from 7-9 down in the match tiebreaker, winning the last four straight points.
This is the second year of the new reimagined Mixed Doubles championship, which emphasizes high-ranked singles players. The all-star line up included Serena Williams, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Aryna Sabalenka among other major singles players.
