(June 2, 2025) Wildcard Lois Boisson, ranked just 361st in the world, playing her first French Open main draw, rallied to beat No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Court Philippe-Chatrier in the fourth round Monday in two-hours and forty minutes.
The 22-year-old Frenchwoman was given a wildcard into the qualifying tournament. She is the sole Frenchwoman remaining into the event. She is by far the lowest-ranked woman to beat someone ranked in the top five at the French Open in 40 years. The lowest most recently was No. 179 Aniko Kapros, who beat No. 5 Justine Henin in the first round in 2002.
“Thank you to all of you,” Boisson told the crowd in her post-match interview. “Playing on this court with such an atmosphere was really incredible.”
“I’m really happy on here. I can stay a long time if you like.”
“I [would] not believe that if you tell me that two weeks ago,” Boisson said afterwards. “I trust in myself, but yeah, for sure, if you say that, no, I can’t believe. Now it’s that, and I’m so happy about it.”
Boisson wil reach a career high ranking in the 120s after the win on Monday.
“Things are not going to change for me,” Boisson said. “They’re going to continue in the same way. It’s just that my ranking will enable me to play larger, more important tournaments. That’s the only thing that’s going to change.”
It’s absolutely great to be in the quarterfinals,” Boisson said. “My hope is to have as many French people in that level in the coming years. It represents a lot to be in the quarterfinals here, and as I said, I hope to go even further.”
“For the match point, I really felt very tense, and when I saw that my forehand was a winner, well, the whole pressure went off,” Boisson told the French media. “I was just so happy to win and to be able to play the quarterfinals.”
No. 2 Coco Gauff made her way to the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 7-5 win against No. 20 Ekaterina Alexandrova. The American will face No. 7 Madison Keys in the final 8 as the Australian Open champion beat countrywoman Hailey Baptiste 6-3, 7-5.
Over on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, the 18-year-old Teenager Mirra Andreeva, the No. 6 seed defeated No. 17 Daria Kasatkina 7-5, 6-3.
