(August 14, 2026) The WTA announced that doubles partners Taylor Townsend of the United States and Katerina Siniakova are the first team to qualify for the WTA Finals Indian Wells, securing their place in the season-ending tournament.
The duo has won four tournaments this season, including three WTA 1000 titles, and will make their third consecutive appearance together at the WTA Finals. Their best result as a team came in 2024, when they finished runner-up.
The Indian Wells Tennis Garden, home of the BNP Paribas Open, will host this year’s WTA Finals as the tournament returns to the United States for the first time since 2022. The event will feature the top eight singles players and doubles teams on the Race to the WTA Finals leaderboard.
Siniakova, the WTA doubles No. 1, and Townsend have been the top-performing doubles team this season. They currently lead the Race to the WTA Finals after winning four of the seven tournaments they have contested.
The pair put together an 18-match winning streak that included WTA 1000 titles at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, the Miami Open presented by Itaú and the Mutua Madrid Open. They also won their third Grand Slam title together at Roland Garros.
Townsend, a Chicago native, made history in July 2025 when she became the first mother in WTA history to reach the No. 1 ranking in doubles.
Siniakova will make her eighth consecutive appearance at the WTA Finals. She won the event in 2021 and has reached the final three other times.
Seven doubles qualification spots remain. Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani, along with Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic, are among the teams looking to join Siniakova and Townsend in Indian Wells.
The WTA Finals Indian Wells will feature the top eight singles players and doubles teams on the PIF Race to the WTA Finals leaderboard. An exception applies to the No. 8 position, which can be awarded to a Grand Slam champion ranked No. 8 through No. 20.
The singles and doubles competitions will be played in a round-robin format. The singles champion will receive the WTA Finals Billie Jean King Trophy, while the doubles champions will receive the WTA Finals Martina Navratilova Trophy.
Play begins Nov. 8 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
