(September 5, 2025) FLUSHING, NY – The No. 3 seeds of Gariela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe defeated the top team of Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-4 to win their second US Open women’s doubles title on Friday afternoon. The Canadian and Kiwi pair also won in 2023. They are the fifth team in the open era to win multiple US Open women’s doubles titles.
In the first set, Dabrowski/Routliffe capitalized on a break of serve on the sixth game of the match to go up 4-2. Serving for the set at 5-3, broken but broke back to take the set 6-4. In the second set, the winners went up 3-0, but Siniakova and Townsend fought back to level the set at 3-3. However there was just no stopping the net play of Dabrowski/Routliffe, who got the ultimate break of serve to win the match 6-4, 6-4.
The win moves the team of Dabrowski/Routliffe up to No. 3. Taylor Townsend retains her No. 1 ranking.
“The level of play I thought was really high,” said the Canadian Dabrowski. “I thought it was really high in our semifinal the other night against Errani-Paolini, an amazing team.
“It had been to be high. It had been to be high then. It had been to be high today. That’s the level of women’s doubles that we’re seeing right now with these amazing players, and really privileged to be a part of that conversation.”
wild ride. Cancer, broken ribs for both of us. It was crazy, honestly.
“I’m really proud of us. It was not easy, but I think we’ve shown that even if we don’t have a consistent schedule like the other teams have, we can still bring a really high level, which is awesome. I think that’s a testament to our work ethic and everything that we put in on court, off the court, with each other as friends too to, you know, keep the chemistry going.
“I think it’s all culminated kind of into this moment. Yeah, I mean, I felt already really proud of us, I would say, at the end of last year in Riyadh, winning the WTA Finals. That kind of felt similar today, similar vibe.
“We have so many of our loved ones here today, and our coaching team has been phenomenal. To share it with everyone is just so special.”
“I think, yeah, obviously if you’re going to win a slam, it has to be really high.” said the Kiwi Routliffe. “I think they’re an amazing team. They’ve had an incredible year, so we knew that we had to bring it today. I think we did a pretty good job of that.”
The No. 1 team reflected on their two weeks at the US Open.
Siniakova: “Definitely enjoyed these two weeks. I mean, as we spoke earlier, I finally felt like I’m feeling the ball here. I’m fighting here on the surface.
“So I think we play a lot of good matches. We had fun. Even I lost first round in singles. I mean, I really enjoy these two, three weeks here. I’m just proud of us.”
While sipping on a Honey Deuce, Townsend spoke about her US Open, where she was one the major stories in all three disciplines.
“I mean, for me it’s been three weeks,” Townsend said. “Long three weeks, but I’ve really enjoyed it.
“You know, this is part of tennis, and I really feel like I’ve learned a lot over these last couple of weeks. Not only about myself, but you know, even just me as a tennis player.
“You know, today was challenging, but we fought, and that’s all that we can ask for. Like I said going into our semi, I was, like, I just want us to be better and just have fun. I felt like we didn’t have fun in the semi of Wimbledon. When we’re smiling and we’re trying our best, that’s what matters.
“So for me, you know, of course I wanted to win and have the trophy. I’m probably going to do charcuterie board on this trophy, but — that would be pretty cool, right, to be served charcuterie on a US Open platter? Subtle flex (laughing).
“Yeah, I mean, I’m just really proud. It can be sometimes overwhelming when you want to win so badly, but ultimately, I said on the court, I feel like I’ve already won no matter what the result was. So we gave it everything, and that’s all that matters. We’ll have other shots.”
