(August 27, 2025) FLUSHING, NY – No. 36 Emma Raducanu needed only 60 minutes to beat Janice Tjen of Indonesia 6-2, 6-1, in Louis Armstrong Stadium. The British No. 1 was pleased with her performance, committing only 8 unforced errors, with 16 winners en route to the third round.
“I’m particularly happy, because on the court, I felt like my opponent was playing really good tennis. I thought that she was very dangerous and any ball that I put midcourt was going to be punished.
“So I’m very pleased with how I kept dictating the points, I kept dictating the play, and didn’t let her too often get her front foot on the court. She’s obviously been play very well, done a lot of winning, and took out Veronika in the first round.
“Of course I was on full alert playing today. Yeah, I’m just very pleased with that performance.”
“I just had a little bit of stiffness (back) in the second set. I think I have been doing a lot of training, and I’m just happy it didn’t affect me too much in the second set and I was still able to compete and to perform well and keep putting out good serves, good returns.
“I think it didn’t really come into the match too much, which I’m happy with.
Tjen grew up idolzing the all-court skillset of former world No. 1 Ash Barty and her game mirrors the green-and-gold great. The 23-year-old scuttled left a la Barty to strike a piercing inside out forehand to fire an early warning sign.
I’m very pleased how I played today. Playing Janice, she’s a super dangerous opponent and has been playing extremely well,” said Raducanu after the match.
“I’m doing my best day by day, that’s all I can do. I’m putting in a lot of trust in the work that I’m doing behind the scenes. It takes some pressure off, but at the same time, whenever you play a match on a big stadium you feel a little bit of pressure. I just try to use that as much as I can.”
