(August 19, 2025) FLUSHING, NY – On Monday night, No. 2 Iga Swiatek won her first Cincinnati Open title by besting Italy’s Jasmine Paolini. Early on Tuesday morning, the five-time major winner was on the practice court for her mixed doubles match at the US Open. By the afternoon, she had reached the semis of the US Open mixed doubles with Casper Ruud.
“I already got the experience of not having time to celebrate,” she said. “This was like the most extreme situation and most extreme schedule I have after the title win, she said with a smile.”
“An hour and a half after the match, we already went to catch a plane.”
“Actually, it’s kind of nice to have another task, and to not let yourself be lazy but really focus on the next exciting thing,” she said about the quick turnaround.
Ruud was not quite as relaxed about it as his partner.
He was talking to Swiatek’s team during the Cincinnati final match.
“I can’t lie. I was a little concerned. We both prepared each other if we were to do well in Cincinnati, that something might happen. We said that early when we planned.”
“I think it’s her will in the end and she decided to show up here, which is wildly impressive because she got to bed 12 hours ago in her hotel in New York, and she is here. She was here stretching, doing her warm-up at 10 a.m.
“Yeah, just really, really proud of two days, both wins. Iga will have a good night’s sleep tonight. She deserves that. We’ll be ready for tomorrow.”
In the “Fast Four” format Swiatek and Ruud won their first match over Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe 4-1, 4-2, and in their quarterfinal match, Caty McNally and Lorenzo Musetti also 4-1, 4-2.
They will play the top seeds Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper for a place in the final on Wednesday.
